White Pollution and Air Quality

This study explores the diverse impacts of white pollution on air quality, public health, and the ecosystem. White pollution, characterized by the accumulation of plastic waste and its associated pollutants, significantly impacts air quality through various mechanisms such as the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), release of hazardous chemicals, and production of particulate matter (PM) during incineration. The deterioration of air quality from white pollution presents significant health hazards, including respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular conditions, cancer, neurological impacts, and immune system disorders. Moreover, white pollution has broad environmental repercussions, encompassing marine and terrestrial pollution, habitat deterioration, chemical contamination, and contributions to global climate change. Various strategies and actions are being implemented globally to address these impacts, including limitations on plastic usage, enhancements in waste management systems, public awareness initiatives, innovations in packaging and materials, air quality surveillance and governance, international accords, and corporate sustainability efforts. The long-term outlook for tackling white pollution and air quality concerns involves transitioning towards circular economy models, advancements in recycling technologies, policy and regulatory interventions, promotion of renewable energy sources, eco-friendly innovations, sustainable methodologies, and educational and public involvement. Resolving white pollution and enhancing air quality necessitate collaborative endeavors and partnerships across different sectors to safeguard public health and environmental integrity for current and future generations.
