With the growing need for renewable energyRenewable energy, ensuring the stability and economic efficiency of floating offshore wind turbinesFloating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) has become paramount. A key determinant of FOWT’s performance and safety is the design and setup of its mooring system. The SINTEF 12 MW FOWT referenced in this study consists of three mooring linesMooring line. However, as turbines continue to increase in size, the task of maintaining three mooring linesMooring line using available production materials presents challenges. Given this situation, this study proposes the design of the number of mooring linesMooring line for a 12 MW FOWT suitable for the environmentalEnvironmental conditions off the southwest coast of South Korea. Real world data was utilized to establish the SLS case, and for the interpretation of extreme environmentalEnvironmental conditions, standards from the International Electrotechnical Commission and American Petroleum Institute were referenced to set up the ULS case. Such optimal mooring configurations not only enhance the structural integrity of the FOWT but also offer potential cost savings in installation and maintenance.
