This chapter presents empirical findings regarding the key factors driving family violence within the South Sudanese community. It explores how factors such as acculturation, gender roles, intergenerational trauma, displacement, and economic instability contribute to the prevalence and persistence of family violence. The findings also emphasise the impact of family violence, community responses, and the conflict between traditional conflict resolution methods and Australia’s formal justice response when family violence occurs. By highlighting the voices of South Sudanese individuals, including applicants and respondents of Family Violence Intervention Orders (FVIOs), this chapter offers a nuanced understanding of the factors contributing to family violence in the South Sudanese community.
