Interdependency-Aware Business Process Prioritization for Process Improvements
摘要
An organization should routinely change and improve its business processes to be a competitive market player. However, as organizations have limited resources, simultaneously improving all business processes is impossible. Therefore, they should prioritize processes for improvement. Current Business Process Management literature provides various process prioritization approaches; however, process interdependency is often neglected as an impacting factor of successful improvement initiatives, even though it is recognized that improving one business process can impact the performance of other processes. To address the problem of neglecting process interdependency, the interdependency-aware business process prioritization approach is proposed, which includes a method for process interdependency identification and evaluation based on business process architecture and models to obtain interdependency rankings that are used together with the expert-evaluated rankings reflecting such process aspects as process health, importance, and feasibility. The proposed interdependency-aware business process prioritization approach is implemented in one company, and the preliminary results show the practical applicability of the proposed approach.
