The number of yearly LASIK procedures is increasing to approximately 800.000 procedures a year, and it was calculated that the total number of LASIK procedures performed in the world is between 20 and 25 million. In a minority of patients, LASIK correction is not a permanently stable solution: despite continuous technological improvements, LASIK surgery remains currently associated with a non-reducible percentage of retreatments. Considering the growing population of LASIK-treated patients and their likely desire to maintain emmetropia, the problem of post-LASIK enhancements can be reasonably expected to escalate in the near future. In this chapter, we will elaborate on the frequency and the causes of early and late retreatments. We will then discuss the operative techniques, the outcomes, and the complications of different surgical approaches.
