Microdistortion is a striae in Bowman’s layer on corneal cap. It is caused by the space left between the anterior and posterior stroma after SMILE-derived lenticule extraction. Microdistortions are more common in moderate to high myopes, and can be detected by anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT). Microdistortions can disappear over time, as a result, there is normally no need for intervention if there is no visual symptoms and no obvious effect on corneal features.
