Ptosis is a common complication seen after intraocular procedures, including refractive surgery. The ptosis can be transient due to post-surgical edema or persistent, typically resulting from stretch injury and dehiscence of the levator aponeurosis after the use of an eyelid speculum. Additionally, a history of contact lens use, as is often seen among patients undergoing refractive procedures, has been found to be a risk factor for ptosis development due to chronic stretch to the levator during contact lens insertion and removal. If the ptosis descends into the visual axis, it necessitates repair, and a variety of internal and external approaches may be utilized. The authors advocate for a small, external-incision levator tuck technique.
