The growing global demand for sustainable, reliable, and affordable electricity has positioned smart grids as crucial for the energy transition. In Morocco, with increasing energy demand and a target of 52% renewable energy by 2030, integrating advanced technologies into the national power grid is essential. This article explores the application of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using SysML to the design and deployment of smart grids in Morocco. The framework captures key structural, behavioral, and enterprise aspects, enabling traceability of requirements to design elements and facilitating stakeholder communication. The study identifies critical stakeholder needs (government, operators, consumers, providers) and analyzes various deployment scenarios, evaluating their technical and economic feasibility to provide informed recommendations for future development. The results demonstrate the potential of MBSE to streamline modernization, optimize resource allocation, and support evidence-based decision-making. This study contributes to smart grid systems engineering in emerging economies and offers practical insights for Moroccan policymakers and utilities.
