Protection of Geographical Indicators in the Digital Age: Technological Challenges and Modern Legislation

This research examines the safeguarding of geographical indicators within the context of the digital era, analyzing the technological and legislative obstacles that influence this protection amid swift technological progress. The focus of the study is on the implications of digital transformations for the legal strategies employed in the protection of geographical indicators, investigating the legal deficiencies present in national frameworks that hinder the efficacy of such protection. Additionally, it considers the challenges that nations may encounter when striving to adopt international standards for the safeguarding of geographical indicators. The findings suggest that certain national legislations require revision to align with technological advancements and international agreements, including the TRIPS Agreement, in order to improve protective measures. Furthermore, the study advocates for the modification of domestic legislation to better conform to international benchmarks and emphasizes the necessity of enhancing collaboration among nations at both regional and global levels to effectively enforce laws governing the protection of geographical indicators.
