Governance and Crisis Management in Education: Lessons Learned from the COVID-19 Pandemic
摘要
The chapter presents an analysis of governance and strategies in managing crises that were applied against the COVID-19 pandemic. Most importantly, the chapter reflects on lessons learned and their contribution toward future educational resilience. The approach of research applied a mix of methods under the qualitative analysis of governance strategies, decision-making processes, and transition to online education, supported by quantitative data regarding indicators such as levels of student engagement, readiness among teaching staff, and available technology. The findings provide critical insights on the challenges that face the Jordanian education system, particularly with respect to the digital divide, teacher preparedness, and psychological needs. While the governance structures allowed a quick response, that response was contingent on filling those gaps. All the more important lessons that can be learned are to invest in digital infrastructure, ensure equal opportunities for all to access technology, and improve the capacities of the teaching staff, along with integrating mental health support in educational crisis management, which would shape more inclusive, adaptive, and resilient education systems in the face of crises.
