Policymakers are human beings at the helm of decision-making and, therefore, influenced by the inherent cognitive biases and heuristics that, most of the time, take a heavy toll on public policy outcomes in the digital age. Therefore, this chapter assesses the influences of psychological biases on the process of decision-making in policy design, evaluation, and implementation. To bridge the apparent gap that has hitherto allowed traditional methods to ignore the very significant role played by cognitive science in understanding how human behavior interplays with changes in policies, this study considers the qualitative methodology as an integration of descriptive and analytical approaches in explaining the ever-evolving role of psychological biases in contemporary governance. Descriptive methodology reviews and synthesizes existing literature, while analytical methodology interprets findings to develop discussions and draw conclusions. The paper recommends the consideration of policymaking bias to call for the adoption of systematic strategies through training and diversity representation for mitigation.

摘要
