Repair and maintenance are fundamental as they ensure the functionality and longevity of various structures. Recently, Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) have been regarded as one of the best repairing and strengthening techniques due to their inherent strength, corrosion resistance, and lightweight nature. FRPs have been used in repairing multiple structures, including columns. However, there is a gap when it comes to studying the incorporation of FRPs with eccentric columns, especially squared ones. Thus, this investigation aims to study different FRP wrapping orientations to strengthen eccentric RC columns subject to biaxial bending and axial compression. A comprehensive examination of the findings is carried out to assess each group of CFRP wrapping considering all the aforementioned factors. Consequently, further research on the best orientation was conducted by subjecting it to different eccentric loading conditions. Therefore, this study could facilitate the industry’s comprehension of the behavior of eccentric columns when wrapped in such orientations under different eccentric loads, ultimately reducing the repair costs by making informed decisions tailored to the specific repair project. This is done while considering costs to introduce the most cost-effective way of wrapping CFRP around eccentrically loaded columns. The first phase of the study includes five groups, namely control specimens (with no CFRP), horizontally wrapped columns at 0-degree orientations, diagonally wrapped columns at -45/ + 45 degrees’ orientation, longitudinal strips alone, and longitudinal strips combined with horizontal sheets. The results showed that horizontal wraps are the most cost-effective orientation, with better results in terms of strength and increase in strength/cost, except for lateral stiffness. Thus, it was suggested to use this orientation in a further investigation which is the second phase of this research and study its behavior under several eccentricities. The second phase of the study included experimenting with columns strengthened with CFRP strips and confined with CFRP wraps at 0 degrees and assessing their modes of failure.

摘要
