Despite the growth of eSports around the world and the media’s attention, several issues remain, including the media’s representation of female eSports players. Therefore, this study aims to analyse how female eSports athletes are portrayed in the online newspaper in Malaysia. Framing was employed as the theoretical framework, while content analysis was used as the research method to analyse news coverage of female eSports in the online newspaper from 2017–2022. The study yields a total of 37 news articles from the online news agencies. The findings of this study reveal a scarcity of news stories that depict women in the context of esports. Only with recent achievements in major sports events have female esports gained increased exposure and coverage. This study summarises that online newspapers in Malaysia have not given great attention to e-sports, particularly female athletes or players. The contribution of the findings to the understanding of female portrayal in eSports was discussed within the Malaysia media context.
