Drones, originally created for military purposes, have been employed to fulfil customer requirements and contribute to a sustainable environment due to their multiple capabilities and advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Although drones may potentially solve numerous issues in last-mile delivery, studies concerning the intention of using them as a last-mile delivery tool remain scarce. Previous studies on drones concentrated on food deliveries. Nevertheless, the idea of utilising drones for last-mile delivery was not comprehensively explained. Despite utilising various theories to predict consumer behaviour, the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) has yet to be employed in drone-related studies. In order to fill the gap, the study employed the extended UTAUT model by integrating openness to change to provide further detail of the intention to use drones for last-mile delivery. Time-saving was introduced as a moderator within the model to enhance the study’s theoretical contribution. By applying a quantitative method, data were collected using questionnaires distributed online. The snowball sampling method was applied to choose the participants. A total of 292 questionnaires were analysed using SmartPLS as the study adopted the formative measurement model. The findings revealed that all the direct hypotheses and moderation hypotheses were supported. Besides enriching the literature of drone-related studies, the findings are beneficial for online platforms, logistics providers, drone providers, and related government agencies, paving the way for drones to fly consumer goods to their yards in the near future.
