Conservation of Energy or Charge?
摘要
In the 1990s, one of my colleagues mentioned that he had read a reader’s letter in the well-known British electronics magazine Wireless World. The reader declared that there is a violation of the conservation of energy principle when a fully charged capacitor is discharged into another capacitor. The claim was more involved than that: If we attempt to conserve the energy, the charge will not be conserved this time. My colleague was very much bewildered by this comment and apparently could not reconcile the claim. I recall saying I had to renounce my degree if I could not explain what was happening.
