Evaluation of the Efficiency of Dewatering Sludge with a High Content of Inorganic Substances on Roller Presses

The dewatering of sludge produced at wastewater treatment plants is a key step in the wastewater treatment process that affects environmental sustainability and economic efficiency. This issue is particularly relevant for sludges with a high content of inorganic substances, such as sand, glass, and other abrasive particles, which cause rapid wear and tear on the equipment used to treat them. Traditional dewatering methods, such as filter presses and centrifuges, can be ineffective when dealing with abrasive sludges. Therefore, there is a need for more reliable and energy-efficient solutions. Roller presses, due to their design, reduce the contact of the sludge with the working components, reduce energy consumption, and ensure compactness. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of a roller press for dewatering sludge with a high inorganic content compared to other common methods, such as centrifuges. The study includes an analysis of the performance, energy efficiency, and durability of the press operating components. It also compares the technical and economic performance of the roller press with other existing technologies that the company uses. The results of the study will help identify the advantages and disadvantages of roller presses for dewatering sludge with a high content of inorganic substances and will contribute to the development of more efficient and environmentally friendly wastewater treatment technologies.
