The intensive deployment of robotic systems in the manufacturing process is causing a discussion about their impact on occupational safety and health. Rapid development and new forms of cooperation between humans and robots create new opportunities, but also risks. The article focuses on the issue of designing robotic manufacturing systems with an aspect of their safety and elimination of risk. Increasing the safety of machinery, designing safe manufacturing systems and ensuring safe working procedures are among the basic pillars of the sustainable development of the entire society. The key to increasing safety in the manufacturing process is the application of basic legislative requirements and established standards. Applying a systematic risk assessment and risk reduction procedure is in accordance with the EU Strategic Framework for Occupational Safety and Health. When designing safe robotic manufacturing systems, it is necessary to focus on analyzing of the assigned function and work activity of the robot, the concept of human-robot cooperation and ensuring their operation. The article presents some principles for the safe integration of industrial robots into the manufacturing system. It includes an application example focused on understanding a specific problem situation.
