Precision agriculture, as an innovative and sustainable farming approach, holds the potential to revolutionize Montenegro’s agricultural sector, particularly in fruit production. This study investigates the feasibility of implementing precision agriculture in Montenegro, focusing on its unique agroecological and soil conditions to foster sustainable and efficient fruit production. The research primarily examines apple and raspberry cultivation, key contributors to Montenegro’s agricultural economy, and evaluates their potential for modernization. With an average of 253,058 hectares of agricultural land (2015–2021), including 1,203.5 hectares of extensive orchards, 1,337 hectares of intensive orchards, and 2,837 hectares of vineyards, Montenegro exhibits significant agricultural diversity. The study highlights fluctuations in apple production, which peaked at 10,614.8 tons in 2015, and the steady growth of raspberry cultivation, reaching 158 hectares by 2022. Despite these resources, the sector faces challenges such as small-scale farming, labor shortages, and limited adoption of advanced technologies. This research utilizes case studies of intensive apple orchards in Nikšić and raspberry plantations in northern Montenegro to illustrate the application of precision agriculture technologies. These include underground sensors, multispectral satellite imagery, automated systems, and robotics for tasks such as fruit harvesting. The findings demonstrate that precision agriculture can significantly enhance productivity, reduce labor dependency, and promote environmental sustainability in Montenegro’s fruit-growing sector. The study underscores the importance of addressing initial barriers, including investment costs and the need for specialized skills, to fully realize the benefits of precision agriculture. By aligning with global trends in sustainable farming, Montenegro can unlock the transformative potential of precision agriculture, ensuring the sector’s resilience and contribution to economic development.
