In this chapter we will reflect on determinants able to explain why some riders win races and other cannot achieve a single podium throughout their entire careers. We will discuss dimensions suggested by the literature, namely individual skills, and a proper team, as well as other determinants like age, nationality, or experience. We will use empirical methods to provide robust outcomes.
