This chapter introduces the concept of “positive second language being” (PSLB), expanding on prior discussions of “positive second language caring” (PSLC) and “positive second language doing” (PSLD). It examines the positive outcomes of bilingualism and multilingualism, focusing on how bilingualism enhances individuals’ lives and contributes to society. While research increasingly recognizes the advantages of speaking multiple languages, a comprehensive understanding of these benefits remains limited. This chapter reviews key outcomes of bilingualism and multilingualism across linguistic, cognitive, academic, social, and emotional domains. Additionally, it explores the moderating factors influencing these benefits and discusses how bilingual and multilingual individuals serve as valuable societal assets. Practical implications are provided for bilingual speakers, parents, and teachers, highlighting strategies to maximize these advantages. By emphasizing the holistic benefits of L2 learning, this chapter underscores the importance of fostering bilingualism and multilingualism for both personal growth and societal enrichment through improvement of intercultural relations.
