The Eastern Himalayan cryosphere plays a crucial role in regional hydrology which influences water availability and climate patterns. The present study examines climate-induced changes in snow cover, temperature and precipitation trends in Arunachal Pradesh from 1988 to 2020 using remote sensing and statistical techniques. Results indicate a significant decline in snow cover, with more pronounced observations during the pre-monsoon and monsoon season. Mean temperature revealed a steady increase during the monsoon season, while trends in precipitation showed variability. The study also showed significant warming trends and a strong correlation between temperature rise and loss of snow cover. The Eastern Himalayan region is experiencing a growing vulnerability towards climate change which could impact water resources, disaster risk and stability of the ecosystem. This study could provide information to policymakers and support conservation efforts, aiming to mitigate the climate change impacts in the region.
