Much of this service will be provided to non-academic entities, including government agencies, accrediting and regulatory groups, companies, and community organizationsOrganizationscommunity, among others. These activities can help to enhance your regional, national, and international reputation as well as that of your university. However, overcommitting oneself to the service activities of non-academic entities can be harmful to your career, particularly in its earlier stages. Interacting with the mediaMedia is a special type of activity that can significantly and quickly help or harm your career, and you should obtain training and guidance in how to engage with mediaMedia representatives. Interacting with non-academic entities also can expose you to conflicts of interest and commitment, which you should be prepared to manage.
