Social work practice is distinct from other helping professions due to emphasis on the person-in-environment perspective. This chapter offers class activities related to the application of this framework at various developmental stages, while utilizing an explicit intersectional lens to help students consider the strengths and barriers clients may face related to social position and access to power and resources. These activities also consider micro, mezzo, and macro practice applications and are designed to (1) help students consider rapidly changing socio-cultural influences on various life stages and (2) challenge the assumptions of “successful” or “normative” development that have been historically bound to White, Western norms.

摘要

Social work practice is distinct from other helping professions due to emphasis on the person-in-environment perspective. This chapter offers class activities related to the application of this framework at various developmental stages, while utilizing an explicit intersectional lens to help students consider the strengths and barriers clients may face related to social position and access to power and resources. These activities also consider micro, mezzo, and macro practice applications and are designed to (1) help students consider rapidly changing socio-cultural influences on various life stages and (2) challenge the assumptions of “successful” or “normative” development that have been historically bound to White, Western norms.
