Usually known as subcutaneous tissue, the adipose tissue has been firstly described in 1837 and considered inert for more than a century. Nowadays we have to consider it as real organ, which plays an important role in many processes as, for example, and energy and glucose homeostasis. In order to clarify its features, in this chapter we will analyse its distribution, types of cells, diagnostics and instrumental clinic.
