The LASER technology, which emerged in the early twentieth century, has gained significant importance in the medical field over the last four decades. It consists of a beam of collimated photons, meaning they travel in parallel lines, in phase in both time and space. This beam is generated through the electronic stimulation of an excitable medium, which determines its characteristics. The result is a light beam with unique properties: extremely high intensity, straight propagation without conical dispersion, and monochromaticity. The physical principle behind laser treatments is called “selective photothermolysis,” which is the ability to selectively and rapidly increase the temperature of the target molecule while sparing the surrounding tissue areas.
