Analysis of Quality Principles in Digital Mammography Exposure Factors

This study addresses the high incidence and mortality of breast cancer in Brazil, highlighting the importance of periodic examinations for early detection of the disease and recommending periodic quality acceptance tests for digital mammography equipment. The formation of a quality image is directly related to the dose used in the imaging exam, and is discussed in detail, with emphasis on the concept of ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) in diagnostic radiology. The quality control is carried out using the Piranha multiparameter meter in conjunction with voltage (kVp), air kerma and skin exposure time tests as with the following standards calculus of each parameter. The goal of this study is to carry out quality control tests to measure the accuracy of mammography to help the pacient and the health worker on the quantity of radiation dose. The results were satisfactory following the parameters of the Brazilian standard.
