Segmentation and Identification of Breast Nodules in Ultrasound Images

The importance of early detection of breast abnormalities, with special focus on nodules, is demonstrated to effectively combat breast cancer, one of the main causes of global mortality. The implementation of a collaborative system, working as an auxiliary to diagnostics through ultrasound tests, aims to improve the effectiveness of diagnosis, allowing early treatments and reduction of adverse events. The system employs techniques of binarization, processing, including filter to minimize speckles noises by improving the sharpness of the images, and calculations, in order to obtain an effective identification. In segmentation, after we get a binary image, it is subdivided into significant regions for detailed analysis and understanding of the scene. So that there is a nodule identification effectively and safely. The implementation of this system can contribute to early treatments, avoiding adverse events, as well as greater chances of cure and reducing the need for unnecessary invasive procedures.
