Aging is a complex process that requires comprehensive attention to the health of the elderly, as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), focusing not only on the treatment of diseases but also on their prevention and health promotion, meaning quality of life. Care should be multidimensional, involving a multidisciplinary team with multiple approaches that encompass all aspects of health, emphasizing multidimensional assessment models. The country's aging population affects the lives of individuals, family structures, demands for public policies, and resource distribution, directly impacting the sustainability of elderly care management and healthcare systems. The aim of this study was to analyze and correlate the epidemiological characteristics related to the health issues of elderly users of the Reference Center for the Elderly in São José dos Campos, aiming at health prevention and promotion. An epidemiological, exploratory, descriptive, observational, and cross-sectional study was conducted. The need for multidisciplinary approaches was evidenced, which is already being carried out in this reference center, such as monitoring nutritional aspects as an indicator of the level of obesity, which is a relevant factor for individuals’ overall health. The rate of polypharmacy may suggest the need for a quick assessment of medication use individually by the elderly, aiming to achieve a better risk-benefit ratio.

摘要
