Phylogenetic networks are essential models for representing evolutionary history, particularly in studies of genome evolution involving reticulation events. Due to their complex structures, inferring phylogenetic networks for a large number of taxa is highly challenging. To better understand the whole space of phylogenetic networks, we derive closed-form formulas for counting binary phylogenetic networks with two and three reticulation events.

摘要

Phylogenetic networks are essential models for representing evolutionary history, particularly in studies of genome evolution involving reticulation events. Due to their complex structures, inferring phylogenetic networks for a large number of taxa is highly challenging. To better understand the whole space of phylogenetic networks, we derive closed-form formulas for counting binary phylogenetic networks with two and three reticulation events.
