Low-frequency ultrasound (LFUS) has been used for body contouring as an effective and non-invasive procedure, how-ever, possible changes in plasma lipid profile after treatment are not well understood.This study aimed to investigate the impact of LFUS on the normal lipid profile of healthy indi-viduals with localized fat deposits in the abdomen. Twenty healthy women aged between 30 and 45 years old, with a BMI between 21 and 25 kg/m2, participated in the study. The volunteers were randomly divided into two groups: LFUS Group (n = 10) and the Sham Group (n = 10; treated with USBF turned off). All participants received 10 sessions of low-frequency ultrasound on the abdominal area, with a frequen-cy of 3 sessions per week and a duration of 30 min per session, using an ultrasonic frequency of 40 kHz, continuous mode, and an intensity of 3 W/cm2. Biochemical blood pa-rameters were measured before treatment and 48 h after the last session for both groups, including total cholesterol serum level, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol serum level, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol se-rum level, very-low-density lipoproteinand (VLDL) choles-terol serum level and triglycerides (TG) serum level. The results indicated that in both groups evaluated, the lipid profile remained within normal limits after 10 treatment sessions. Therefore, we can conclude that the use of LFUS proved to be a safe and effective technique in the treatment of localized fat.
