Development of ECG Signal Simulation Program for Education of Health Professionals

Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) indicate that cardiovascular diseases are currently responsible for the highest mortality rate in the world. In an attempt to reduce the number of deaths due to cardiovascular diseases, the electrocardiogram (ECG) is commonly applied to identify these types of diseases, where an efficient diagnosis of patients’ cardiovascular conditions is a determining factor in saving lives. This research aims to develop a simulation program of varied ECG signals for the education of health area professionals, aiming at the improvement of clinical practice for the identification and diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. To this end, the Google Colab was used for the development of the program, using the Python programming language as a base and as a mathematical tool for simulating ECG signals: sine functions with sines raised to different exponents. The developed program proved to be efficient in the simulation of varied ECG signals, thus allowing its application in the area of education and training of health professionals, as well as applications in the area of Biomedical Engineering.
