Clinical Engineering is the subfield of Biomedical Engineering responsible for the management of health technology in Healthcare Facilities, regarding medical equipment. Currently, it plays a fundamental role in Healthcare Facilities that aim to promote the development and continuous improvement of quality, safety, and sustainability in healthcare. Among the responsibilities of Clinical Engineering, management and execution of maintenance stand out, which are of great importance for healthcare institutions since their main objective is to improve the quality of equipment use, patient and operator safety, and reduce equipment depreciation. Thus, for the execution of maintenance, adequate infrastructure and a qualified and properly sized technical team are necessary for the equipment park of the healthcare institution. Therefore, this article presents a model for sizing the clinical engineering technical team considering mainly the types of technical interventions to be performed, on which equipment, and the technical team’s productivity. The objective of the model is to provide guidance for the establishment of a Clinical Engineering Service regarding the necessary technical team, in order to ensure the execution of scheduled maintenance, increase technical productivity, reduce maintenance costs, and improve operator and, primarily, patient safety.
