Facing Impossible Choices: Servicing Debt or Serving Their People Within These Communities
摘要
This chapter gives us a clear indication of the output and impact of the utilization of loans versus grants in communities in Jamaica. The chapter also looks at the financial burden that happens in communities. It also talks about the sustainability of projects funded by these grants as opposed to loans and helps us to better understand the long-term impact of these loans. The chapter also provides us with a global perspective on the development of aid and looks at some of the strategies that have been utilized. Social transformation and environmental sustainability are also factors that affect these communities. Therefore, the chapter also highlights that development loans and grants are key for Jamaica’s national development goals, contingent on strategic planning, policy coherence, effective governance, and sustainable development principles. Leveraging these resources strategically can accelerate progress, enhance socio-economic outcomes, and foster resilience. Communities must therefore align these funds effectively with Jamaica’s priorities for sustainable development and ensuring long-term prosperity. This can better be achieved through social capital by creating an avenue for loans and grants to impact the community. Greater networking of all these stakeholders is needed to help with looking at how they influence the population and connect with government, NGOs, and other donor funding to ensure that a certain level of sustainability is maintained and continuously benefits the community.
