Social Development of Communities in Jamaica with the Help of Loans/Grants

This chapter provides the readers with a clear understanding of the social development of how loans and grants are utilized in Jamaican communities with reference to various examples. The chapter also delves into our understanding of how these opportunities contribute to healthcare and how they encourage greater opportunities from community members. There is also special emphasis that is placed on the governance framework, particularly on accountability. It also takes us to the avenue of the community developing a certain level of ownership which is important to encourage greater sustainability. The chapter further investigates the challenges with loans and debt and the flipside of utilizing a loan, Questions are also asked about the infrastructure that is utilized within these communities. A discussion is also shared about the benefits of loans as opposed to grants, as this is seen throughout the entire book as an area that most communities try to avoid. The community environment is also further explored under the social impact of loans versus grants in these communities.
