摘要

The global shipping industry is grappling with escalating fuel prices and stricter emission regulations. Anticipating further fuel price increases, the International Convention on the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and Sulfur Emission Control Areas (SECA) will enforce restrictions on fuel oil usage in specific areas. To comply with these regulations, the maritime sector is exploring the adoption of cleaner fuels and innovative propulsion systems. Hydrogen fuel is emerging as a promising alternative, mainly when utilized in fuel cells, which overcome the limitations of internal combustion engines. This project focuses on redesigning a ship's power plant by integrating diesel generators with fuel cells for a coastal pleasure boat. The study highlights using a metal hydride battery in capsule form, emphasizing an optimized hydrogen storage design. The research introduces an improved metal hydride powder, MmNi5, incorporated into a drum set of storage capsules, promoting more effective activation and improved sorption characteristics.
