Monet. The Cataract and the Water Lily
摘要
The soft contours and color transitions, the signature feature of Claude Monet’s work, were likely the result of nearsightedness and cataracts. Monet had always rejected using glasses with the comment that “he didn’t want to see so sharply.” After the removal of his cataracts, he was very disappointed by the murky colors he had used prior to surgery so he destroyed some of these paintings.
