IOL Power Calculations
摘要
In 1949, Harold Ridley (see about Ridley in later chapter) implanted the first intraocular lens (IOL). The history of biometry and calculation of the required artificial lens power began with the introduction of an artificial “lenticulus” can be dated approximately to 1948/1949. The prediction of the refractive power of the IOL was made by estimations based on the patient´s refraction before cataract surgery and later by calculations based on technical measurements. The “GOW formula,” published by H. Gernet, H. Ostholt, and H. Werner in 1970, was widely used in the Federal Republic of Germany.
