Given the multiple inputs and multiple outputs involved, it is understandable that the vestibular system (in this broad sense) involves a wide range of neuroanatomical pathways. In a narrower sense, “vestibular system” can refer to the process by which type 1 vestibular hair cells in the inner ear’s labyrinth transduce acceleration (whether rotational or translational) into electrochemical signals.
