Migraine-Associated Vertigo
摘要
Migraine-associated vertigo (MAV) is a type of migraine that causes disequilibrium. This is probably a common cause of disequilibrium in children and adults. There is no test that “proves” a person has MAV, and since there are numerous illnesses that can cause the symptom of disequilibrium, it is medically reasonable to screen for alternative diagnoses. Treatment of MAV is similar to that of migraines in general. We usually recommend that patients begin with nonpharmacological approaches because these have very little medical risk. Lifestyle modifications can include reducing triggers, regularizing meal times, practicing good sleep hygiene, and smoking cessation. Nutritional supplements can include magnesium, riboflavin, vitamin D, coenzyme Q10, and melatonin. Herbal supplements can include Feverfew. Adjunctive nonpharmacological strategies can include acupuncture, biofeedback, relaxation therapy, and transcutaneous electrical neurostimulation.
