One of the mechanisms responsible for this healing is known as “vestibular compensation.” The best studied mechanism to promote vestibular compensation is appropriately targeted vestibular rehabilitation therapy. Various chemical compounds have also been studied, though mostly only in animal models. Of the chemicals that have been studied which are available as medications, we tend to favor betahistine because it is readily available, it is generally well-tolerated, and it has few drug-drug interactions.
