Electrocochleography (ECoG) assesses the summation potential and action potential during auditory stimulation. The main clinical application is in the identification of endolymphatic hydrops, the most common cause of which is Ménière’s disease. ECoG is a technically difficult test and should be performed by a seasoned audiologist or ototechnician. Its sensitivity and specificity are moderate, so its results should not be interpreted in isolation.
