The bedside head impulse test (bHIT) is a bedside examination maneuver that assesses the rotational vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). During this test, the examiner holds the sides of the patient’s head firmly and rotates the head with small, quick movements to one side or the other, while the patient tries to keep their gaze fixated on a target directly ahead of them (usually the examiner’s nose). The examiner looks for compensatory saccades.
