The term “Ehlers-Danlos syndrome” (EDS) refers to a group of diseases that can cause problems with joints, skin, blood vessels, the heart, the eyes, and other body organs. Consultation with a genetic counselor is appropriate when a diagnosis of EDS is being entertained. Some EDS patients have hearing loss. Some EDS patients experience disequilibrium because of orthostatic intolerance, otologic, or neurologic problems.
