Jordan is filled with remarkable cultural landmarks and enigmatic remnants of ancient times. It has hosted some of humanity's earliest settlements, showcasing the legacies of numerous great civilisations that endure to this day. Among these treasures lies Iraq al-Amir, a site boasting caves from the Copper Age and remarkable Roman-Byzantine architectural remnants nestled in its hills. Notably, Qasr al-Abd Palace stands out as a significant Hellenistic relic in Jordan. However, recent pronouncements by UNESCO highlight the precarious situation facing heritage sites across the MENA region, threatened by factors such as armed conflicts, excessive tourism, and natural calamities. The past few years have witnessed various improvements in 3D digitising and modelling heritage assets of monuments and artefacts, besides entire archaeological sites in different areas worldwide. The implementation of such digital technologies prior to and in times of crisis offers new solutions to avoid the loss of important sites forever. One of these advancements is presented in the growth of employing particular reality-based modelling methods in heritage digital reconstruction, such as photogrammetric modelling. This paper examines developing an innovative workflow for digitally representing a reconstructed replica of a threatened Qasr al-Abd Palace. The methodology involves digitising the entire palace using drones and 3D automated photogrammetric reconstruction-based software. The digitally reconstructed outputs will be managed and implemented efficiently in Unity to create a 3D virtual environment for this monument, allowing it to be visualised and experienced using a high-end VR headset. The results of this process would enable an experimental VR simulation, providing future visitors with an enhanced walk-through that features an immersive off-site experience. This can be particularly useful in times of crises, such as travel bans associated with COVID-19 or other circumstances.
