Many regard Prague, the Czech Republic’s capital, as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its picturesque urban structure, impeccably maintained historic city centre, and distinctive sub-architecture contribute to its allure. The current historical heart of Prague has preserved the city’s original boundaries, which have remained largely unaltered since the rule of Charles IV up to the late nineteenth century, revealing a complex network of internal structural links hidden in its layout. It appears that ancient principles, derived from the expertise of Roman land surveyors, were adopted as the foundational elements of the city’s layout. Moreover, the strategic positioning of sacred structures within the city’s framework is particularly striking. These sacred edifices are so thoughtfully placed throughout the city plan that their chancel areas’ interrelated orientations form a pattern, suggesting a level of intentional design that seems almost beyond belief. The intricate triangular, cruciform, and other geometric patterns formed by these key religious buildings demonstrate an impressive level of precision in their measure of length. Most of the buildings on which the whole sacred geometric concept is based were founded in the pre-Romanesque and Romanesque periods and, in many cases, later rebuilt. This intricate design was completed during the reign of Charles IV, who was able to understand and further develop it in the urban planning of the New Town of Prague. The geometric consistency found throughout the city is highly unlikely to be coincidental; instead, it suggests a deliberate effort to unify these buildings ideologically—perhaps even to harmonise them like the musical instruments of an orchestra. Our research aims to collect all the information found so far from various sources and to create a unified and clear material, both in the form of text and in the form of maps illustrating individual geometric relationships.
