Presidential Debating: The Inconclusive Conclusion

Although the Commission on Presidential Debating is dead and/or dying, the format they created will continue to exist for a long time to come. What does the future hold for Presidential Debating? Regardless of what occurs, approaching the events as moments to help us as an audience reform, reframe, and test our own views on who the best candidate is transforms sour events into resources for our own thinking and judgment. A rhetorical approach to the debates, as opposed to a factual contest, puts us in control of the debates’ value, allowing us to ground our opinions on things candidates directly said and why those statements matter to our thinking.
