Accessibility Barriers to Treatment from a Gender Perspective
摘要
An addictive disorder is a chronic, yet treatable disease. Therefore, it is vitally important that people suffering from addiction access treatment that aids in their detoxification and recovery. In this process, those suffering from the disease encounter barriers that hinder their access to treatment, which are more complex and persistent in the case of women or the LGBTQIA+ community. This chapter presents the accessibility barriers faced by people suffering from an addiction who need to start treatment for their disorder, around two sections: barriers related to the treatment program, and those related to the person with an addiction and their environment, all applying a gender perspective. In the final section, some measures are proposed that could help mitigate these barriers and ensure that people with some type of addiction, especially those belonging to vulnerable groups, start an addiction treatment to improve their quality of life.
