Fault-Tolerant Design and Control Strategies for Multiphase Traction Electric Drives

The chapter presents motor designs developed for the use in systems of multiphase induction motor drives with phase-pole control (which is a special case of over-phase control in accordance with the laws of energy efficiency acting in the field of multiphase induction motor drives. The authors of the paper developed three basic design options for these motors: a motor with a toroidal multiphase stator winding, a motor with a diamagnetic shield (screen) on the stator, and a motor with a multi-rod stator winding. The principles of construction of power supplies for motors with multi-rod stator winding have been developed. Further development of the concept of an induction motor with a multi-rod winding of the stator allowed the authors of the paper to develop principles for constructing windingless AC machines, which will have a simpler design and lower manufacturing cost than existing AC machines. A comparison is made of post-emergency control strategies that can be used in the field of multiphase phase-pole controlled induction motor drives.
