Higher Education in the Post-Affirmative Action Era
摘要
Even though affirmative action in college admissions was struck down in June 2023, misconceptions about college admissions policies and practices persist. In the post-affirmative action era, it is crucial to move beyond polarized debates and take proactive measures to address public concerns about transparency, equity, and diversity in higher education. Against this backdrop, Chap. 7 opens with practical and policy implications. To rebuild public trust, selective universities should adopt creative and effective public education strategies to help the public make more well-informed opinions on controversial college admissions policies and practices and at the same time unpack the black box of college admissions. This chapter ends with a call for increased attention to mental health issues within the Chinese American community, and more bridge-building efforts between conservative and progressive Chinese Americans, whose shared struggles and common goals can bridge divides.
