Anger is sometimes right to go beyond the limits of society. Violence and even, in extreme cases, the disruption and destruction of society in a revolution seem justified or even necessary. Focusing on the history of American protests, from the time of the American Revolution through the Civil Rights period of the 1960s, the balance of civil limits on anger and the righteousness of revolution requires a sense of justice and virtue rather than any bright-line rules.
